HULL COMPATIBILITY
A tractor beam that can pull nine hundred tonnes can also tear nine hundred tonnes in half. The engineering that matters is in the gradient, not the maximum.
Three gradients for three problems
Hard for cargo pods and intact hulls that will not care. Soft for structures with known damage, spreading the load over a wider footprint. Feathered for hulls that are actively coming apart, where the job is to slow a tumble without adding stress at any single point. Choosing wrong is the most common cause of a salvage becoming a debris field.
Tumble cancellation that does not fight you
Two stabilising beams work against the rotation of the captured mass on all three axes while the primary handles translation. The operator flies the approach; the projector handles the spin. On a typical derelict recovery this cuts capture time from twenty minutes to about four.
Range that reflects reality
Twelve kilometres of hard capture, forty kilometres of station-keeping. The second number is the useful one — it is how far away you can hold a mass steady while a crew works on it.
Fitting notes
Mounts ventrally on any Class III salvage hardpoint. Requires a clear 40° cone; obstructions inside the cone produce beam scatter and a very unhappy log entry. Our ten rules for cargo retrieval are worth reading before first use.
