Flight notes

  • Ray and particle channels run on separate emitters, feeds and control logic.
  • Harmonics rotate every 340 ms with no operator input.
  • Degrades in defined stages and names the sector that lost coverage.
  • Holds 40% of nominal across the full sphere at the worst supported fault state.

HULL COMPATIBILITY

CorvetteHeavy cruiserExplorerSystem patrol

Most shield failures are not overloads. They are single-point failures in a system that was sold as redundant and wasn't.

Two channels that genuinely do not share hardware

Ray shielding and particle shielding on the DSG-4400 run on separate emitter chains, separate power feeds and separate control logic. A generator fault that takes out particle shielding leaves ray shielding at full strength. This costs more to build. It is also the entire point.

Harmonic rotation as standard

The generator rotates its shield harmonics every 340 milliseconds without operator input. Anything that adapts to your shield frequency has to re-adapt three times a second, which in practice means it does not.

Graceful degradation

When the DSG-4400 loses capacity, it sheds it in defined stages and tells you which stage you are in. It does not drop from full protection to nothing. At the worst supported fault state — one channel gone, two emitters offline — the unit still holds 40% of nominal across the full sphere.

Fitting notes

Six emitters minimum for full spherical coverage; most operators fit eight for margin. The generator wants a dedicated power tap and will complain, loudly and in writing, if it is sharing a bus with your ion thrusters. Read our harmonics field guide before you tune it.
