HULL COMPATIBILITY
The HD-7 is the part of the ship that decides whether "we can make the jump" is a plan or a eulogy. We built it around one uncomfortable fact: most motivators fail not because their physics is wrong but because their calibration drifts and nobody notices until the ship is already committed to a lane.
Self-correcting, not self-congratulating
The nine-node lattice measures its own field geometry 400 times a second and trims the weakest node against the strongest. That means the HD-7 spends a jump gradually correcting itself rather than gradually going out of true. Over eleven consecutive jumps our test hull lost 0.4% of nominal field integrity. The industry average over the same profile is closer to 9%.
The damper is meant to be replaced
Every hyperdrive has a consumable, and pretending otherwise is how crews end up stranded. The HD-7's alluvial damper is mounted at the front of the housing behind a single captive panel. No pulling the drive. No drydock. A competent engineer's mate replaces it in about forty minutes, and the motivator refuses to spin up if the new damper is seated wrong.
What the telemetry actually tells you
Most drives report a single green light, which is another way of saying they report nothing. The HD-7 publishes node-by-node drift, damper erosion in microns, and a plain-language estimate of how many jumps remain before service. When it says two jumps left, it means two jumps, not "some unknown number that might be zero."

Fitting notes
The HD-7 drops into any standard class 1 motivator cradle with the supplied shim kit. Ships built before 2340 will want the deep-cradle adapter, which we include at no cost if you tell us the hull class when you order.
